Denton Fire Dept. Pipes and Drums at the 2005 Denton County Firefighter Memorial

The Denton Fire Department Pipes and Drums was established in 2001 to pay honor and respect to the dedicated men and women of the fire service.  The need for an honor guard was first recognized following the passing of retired Fire Chief Jack Gentry.  Soon afterwards, Denton had formed an honor guard for the purpose of restoring the ceremonial traditions long associated with the fire service.  One of the most recognized traditions in the fire service has been the playing of the bagpipes and drums for fallen firefighters.  Several members of the honor guard began investing their own time and effort to learn these instruments.  From these beginnings the Denton Fire Department Pipes and Drums was born.

The first performance of the Pipes and Drums was at the dedication ceremony of the new Central Fire Station in May 2003.  Since that time, the Pipes and Drums have performed at numerous funerals, banquets, parades, and other venues.
